T.J.Maxx Now Open on Oahu

Have you visited one of the new T.J. Maxx stores yet?  I had a little time yesterday and stopped into the Ward location to look around.  I could only stay 20 minutes but I still managed to find a couple things to buy and I want to go back soon!

If you’ve shopped at T.J. Maxx before then all you need to know is that, as of tomorrow, they will have three locations here on Oahu.  The first to open was the Ward location on May 1.  It’s behind Ward Center on Auahi Street.  On May 10 the Pearl City Gateway location opened which is next to Babies ‘R Us and across from Walmart in Pearl City.  Tomorrow, May 17, is the grand opening for their location in Pearlridge Uptown at the opposite end of the mall from Macy’s.  (Addresses for all of these are at the end of this post.)

If you’ve never shopped at T.J. Maxx, or haven’t been there in awhile you may wonder what the buzz is about.  T.J. Maxx is kind of like Ross in that they carry a variety of items – clothing for men, women and children, household goods, shoes, accessories and toys, all at reduced prices.  However they carry more brand-name items than Ross does and their displays and racks are divided into smaller sections (at least at their Ward location) than those at Ross.

Because they carry more name brand items, be sure to keep an eye on the price tags as you shop; they can vary from item to item quite a bit.  A cute sundress I saw was $100.  Yes, this was a great deal marked down from it’s $500 price tag in other stores but not exactly the bargain I was looking for.

Speaking of name brands, I read that the Ward location has a special section with more name brands than your average T.J. Maxx store so keep that in mind when you are deciding which location to shop at.

One last thing, I was impressed with the lighting in the dressing room.  It was actually complimentary, unlike the fluorescent lighting in many changing rooms that makes most people look hideous.  A little detail but one I really liked.

Happy shopping!
